Just kidding … but I’d sure love to be the first-place winner who wins a gourmet three-course dinner for two delivered once each month for one year from GourmetStation.com. The runner-up prizes (5) aren’t too bad either …a free cheesecake dessert that serves 16, worth $90 each.
So get a camera out, take a great pic and then send in your best original Mac and Cheese Recipe.

I love making healty heart smart muffins, but the other day I accidently left my trusted muffin pan in water for too long and it rusted out on me. I went to the local cookware shop expecting an easy decision. Insead I was totally surprized by the number of silicone baking products: cake pans, muffin tins (what on earth do I call it when it’s not tin?), jelly moulds, oven mitts, spatulas and more.
So I succumbed and decided to give the new fangled muffin tin a try. The store clerk told me a few interesting things about my new purchase:
1) unlike metal, silicone is a poor heat conductor.
2) Silicone can stand temperatures from freezing to high, high heats without cracking or warping and bonus … it doesn’t rust!
3) It’s light and very easy to store.
The down side? Because it doesn’t conduct heat, it doesn’t brown. So my muffins are just brown on top. AND I had to put the muffin tin on a cookie sheet because I couldn’t figure out any other way to get it into the oven.
The jury is still out. What are YOUR baking experiences with Silicone in the Kitchen?

Silicone Mini-Muffin Pan
By the way, any of the new silicone products would make excellent gifts for anyone interested in cooking and baking! I’ve got a few of the things I saw on MY list!!

Do you do LISTS? You know, the to-do kind of lists? I’ve tried dozens of online programs, from 3-M’s post-it notes to very expensive and hugely difficult to use programs like Maximizer. They have never worked for me simply because they require a level of organziation that I don’t have. I want something I can access on-the-fly from anywhere I am. From my lap-top or my desk-top or one of my clients computers. I want lists that I can transfer to my clients and visa versa.
So when I found “ta da” I was totally blown away. And that is WHY they let you use it for free … they know that if you love ta-da you might try the next step … which is their next level program … Backpack. Backpack includes a limited trial version and several paid subscriptions (really cheap). After trying ta-da and then backpack, I upgraded to one of their paid subscriptions because it includes a calendar.
It’s all online, accessible from wherever there is a computer, OH SO EASY to use and totally useful. My clients and I have an easy way to communicate and make sure nothing drops through the cracks.
On their forum I’ve seen people using it for their personal lists, for planning weddings, websites and more, way more.

Last week’s Freebie Flash focused on some free and “pay-the-shipping” health related samples.
One of my readers, D. Jensen, emailed me and asked if I had heard about Purity Products … mainly because these were available both in Canada and the US. I followed up and found the website, where they offer a nice selection of FULL SIZE samples, and you only pay the postage … in fact, the shipping charges ($4.95) are so low I was surprized.
One word of caution about these free offers … they automatically enroll you into their shipping program. So unless you actually want a shipment of products, be sure to CANCEL before the 30 days are up.
Here is a list of the samples you can get:
One months supply Omega 3 Fish Oil for healthy heart, brain and joints. I have a tablespoon of omega oil every day! So this is my first choice!
Super Reds Berry Formula. This is an antioxidant formula for cardiovascular health, heart health, skin health, memory and recall… as well as supercharging your immunity.
H.A. Joint Formula for healthy joints, skin and vision.
Omega Berry Fish Oil Formula. I’m not sure what the difference is between this and the Omega 3 Oil … I think it is berry flavored. Fish oil that is berry flavored? My tastebuds are doing weird things!!
Perfect Multi Super Greens. This is a super duper antioxidant multi vitimine formula. “Optimally Balanced, Dark Greens, Phyto-Nutrients, Multivitamin and Mineral Super Formula. A Superior 5000+ ORAC/Antioxidant Blend.”
I don’t think you can order all the trials at one time, so pick the one you like best and then try again for another a few days later.
Enjoy your GOOD HEALTH, and your free stuff!
Melanie

The other day I was talking to a friend who lives in Mexico. We were discussing our favorite reality television program “The Biggest Loser” … and were joining a mutual admiration society for Kim, the new trainer. (see my Big Blob Blog)
At one point, it occured to me to ask, how she was able to keep up with all the American/Canadian TV programs … and she told me about this nifty program. Basically what you do is download the software, and it allows you to use your computer connection to watch your favorite TV programs. She says she has hundreds of choices including some of the high priced movie channels.
I figured that she would be paying a premium price for this service … but NO. It is a one time charge of $30 US … so WOW, what a deal.
Here’s the link … you may even end up disconnecting your cable service!! OH … and it has a 60 day guarantee, so you aren’t out of pocket if for some reason you don’t like it.
